Minimal monotones are my favorite.
I love the big city but don’t get much of that vibe when I’m in Grand Rapids. A few tall buildings and some coffee shops don’t always cut it when I have an itch to explore! So, when the Los Angeles bug sets in, the next best option is a (fairly) short two and a half hour drive to Detroit.
I visited downtown to get it out of my system and then headed to the New Center area. After walking around and snapping a few shots, I went to one of my favorite places–the Fisher Building. It has the most lovely architecture and ornate interior. The building features floor to ceiling marble (yes, I have a marble obsession), channels art deco design, and houses one of Detroit’s oldest live theaters.
I took a lot of photos around the city, but my favs are in the Fisher Building. The hallways were perfect for a photo op! The details in the hanging lanterns, marble, and tile contrasted beautifully with my simple all black outfit.
Styling the All Black Look
1. Forever 21 Dress: My original dress isn’t in stock right now, so I found one with a similar silhouette. But check Forever 21 occasionally! I have seen them restock it. In both dresses the mesh adds texture, but the silhouette keeps it classic and simple. They’re also a great blank canvas for a minimal outfit.
2. Topshop Necklace: This necklace went out of stock so fast! I included the link anyway with the hopes of it restocking. In case it doesn’t, this suede choker necklace is a great alternative for the same outfit. It still gives off that modern minimal street fashion vibe.
3. H&M Cardigan: I can’t get enough of oversized sweaters and cardigans. They’re so cozy! I bought my sweater a size too big to make sure it had that oversized look.
4. Urban Outfitters Leather Booties: If you know me, you know I love a good pointed toe shoe. I don’t care what kind it is–if it has a point, it is automatically 10x cuter in my book.
